Welcome To Berlin

Berlin, the hip, cool, funky, capital of Germany. This sprawling city has come a long way from its devastating past and has revived itself into the lively destination it is today. Although this city now has a thriving young scene, complete with 24-hour nightclubs, you’re never far from history here. Around every corner you’ll find something that tells a story of this once divided city. From the U-Bahn stations to the old cars, and from the Berlin Wall to Checkpoint Charlie, we’ll uncover pieces of the past every day on this trip and we want you to come along for the journey. There’s also plenty of time to explore at your leisure so if you do want to try out one of those 24-hour nightclubs, we’re not going to stop you!

Friday 2nd August

Today we arrive in Berlin for a great few days of exploring what this city has to offer. We’ll arrive at our hotel in the evening to get some rest before the real start of our trip tomorrow.

Overnight at Mercure Hotel MOA Berlin.

Saturday 3rd August

To get acquainted with this big city, we’ll be doing a walking tour this morning. We’ll meet our guide at the hotel and then we’ll be shown around Berlin’s hotspots all while being told about the history of Berlin. We’ll walk by sights such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Tiergarten, Gendarmenmarkt, Checkpoint Charlie, The Berlin Wall, and Museum Island. There’s a lot to take in so bring comfy shoes and we’ll definitely be stopping for a snack along the way to keep our energy up!

After lunch, you may want to visit the Topographie des Terrors. One of Berlin’s most popular museums, the Topographie des Terrors is a historic site that is a center of documentation for Nazi crimes. This was the central location from which the Nazis planned and operated most of their crimes and was the SS Reich Main Security Office.

The rest of the day is yours to spend how you wish. You might want to explore the shops in Charlottenberg, take a longer walk around Tiergarten, or sit by the outdoor swimming pool at Badeschiff.

Breakfast included. Overnight at Mercure Hotel Berlin MOA.

Sunday 4th August

Let’s enjoy a leisurely Sunday breakfast before going to Reichstag for a guided tour around the German Parliament. We’ll take a 90 minute tour and learn about the history and architecture of the Reichstag Building via our guide and tactile diagrams and models of the plenary chamber and dome. We’ll then head up to the dome of the Reichstag for 360-degree views across Berlin and our audio guide will tell us about Berlin’s landscape from a birds-eye view.

After our tour around the Reichstag, we’ll have time for lunch before going to the Memorial of the Murdered Jews. Our private tour will include a discussion outside the Memorial as well as a tour of the exhibition. The ground here is uneven so take your time as you walk around. It’s specifically designed to replicate a feeling of uneasiness and disorientation as you walk through the Memorial.

As we go into late afternoon, you may want to stay longer around this area to visit Potsdamer Platz or to do some shopping in the Mall of Berlin.

Breakfast included. Overnight at Mercure Hotel MOA Berlin.

Monday 5th August

Today you may spend time in Berlin as you wish and there’s plenty still to see so go out and explore! Get a photo taken in one of Berlin’s Photoautomats – this old style strip of photos make for a great souvenir to take home with you! Hopefully as it’s summer the weather will nice, enjoy a boat ride along the River Spree, feast on a picnic in the park or hunt down a Doner Kebab – something that’s made very well in Berlin! If you want a unique day out of the city, how about heading to a giant water park? Tropical Islands is south of Berlin and this resort is housed inside an old airship hangar so you can imagine how huge it is! Here you’ll find slides, swimming pools, slides, beaches, crazy golf, giant air balloons, a lagoon, a tropical rainforest, restaurants, shops and so much more! You could spend a whole weekend here so it’s definitely worth coming for a day if waterparks are your thing!

In the evening, try out some food at one of Berlin’s great restaurants. If you want pizza, Zola’s is the place to go and if you’re fancying some sushi, head to DUDU – if you go here there are plenty of cool bars for a nightcap before bed!

Breakfast included. Overnight at Mercure Hotel MOA Berlin.

Tuesday 6th August

Sadly it’s our last day in Berlin so we’ll be taking an early transfer to the airport this morning before our flight home!

Breakfast included.

Single supplement: £160
