Saturday 20th July

Today we’ll meet at the airport to jet off to Copenhagen. When we land in the city we’ll drop our bags off at the hotel and enjoy some free time in the city before check in. We’ll check in at Hotel Osterport and then we’ll meet as a group at 6pm before going for dinner.

Overnight in Copenhagen.

Sunday 21st July

Our visit to Copenhagen starts with a walking of the city. Not only will we be able to get orientated with the city but we’ll learn about some of Copenhagen’s most famous sights including Nyhavn harbour, the Danish Parliament, Copenhagen Opera House, and the Marble Church.

When our tour finishes, the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. You might want to go back and revisit some places we’ve seen on our walking tour, or if you want to discover the darker side of some of today’s favourite fairytales such as The Little Mermaid and The Emperor’s New Suit, then go to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. Beware, these tales are a lot different than what Disney wanted us to believe!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Copenhagen.

Monday 22nd July

It’s no Orlando but Tivoli Gardens certainly has a charm all of its own. As the world’s second oldest theme park – this place opened in 1843 – you’re literally walking through history at Tivoli Gardens. Your entry gives you access to the grounds which feature plenty of shows throughout the summer. There are gorgeous buildings, and gardens which make you forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city. If you’re feeling particularly daring, you can buy a ticket to ride some high adrenaline rollercoasters, or enjoy more relaxed attractions such as The Flying Trunk or the electric boats around the small lake. The afternoon is free to spend how you wish – if you’ve got more hair-raising rides to experience then stick around Tivoli Gardens. Alternatively, go and hang out in one of Copenhagen’s coolest neighbourhoods, Nyhavn harbour.

Located next to the water are blue, green, red, yellow, orange and white buildings which create quite the colourful background to this harbour. There are many restaurants and cafes here so it’s the perfect place to while away an afternoon with a good meal and refreshing drink by the water! We’ll meet back at the hotel at 6pm before going out for dinner as a group.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Copenhagen.

Tuesday 23rd July

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before we head to Amalienborg for the changing of the guard. The Danish Royal Guard March starts from Rosenborg Castle at 11.30am – which is where we’ll be heading later – and arrives at Amalienborg at 12 noon where the ceremony marks the start of the guards’ 24-hour shift.

We’ll have some free time for lunch before our tour at Rosenborg, a renaissance castle in the heart of Copenhagen. Built by Christan IV, this 400-year-old castle was one of his favourites for many important royal events. Here our guided tour will have replicas of cannons and clocks that still chime as they did back when the Christan IV used them. We’ll also go through the rooms of Rosenborg and get a glimpse into the every day life of the royals who used to call this place home.

From here, we’ll make our way to the Botanical Gardens which cover an area of over 10 hectares! Our guided tour will take us around some of the 27 intricate and historical glasshouses which are home to over 13,000 species of plants – 600 of which are Danish. There’s also a new Rhododendron garden and a Butterfly House to explore here, and as we’re visiting in summer the Botanical Gardens will be brimming with life!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Copenhagen.

Wednesday 24th July

This morning after breakfast, we’ll check out of our hotel and have a leisurely morning before we depart for home. We hope you’ve had a great time in Copenhagen!
