Saturday 31st August

Today we arrive into France and transfer to our base for the week, Gap. We shall settle into our surroundings before deciding on our dinner for the evening!

Overnight in Gap.

Sunday 1st September

We begin our week of activities today as we head to Lake Serre Poncon for a full day of kayaking. This dammed lake lies in the very centre of the Hautes-Alpes and boasts dazzling turquoise waters, lined with lush and verdant shorelines. Surrounded by secret beaches and coves, with a backdrop of spectacular mountains, this makes the perfect first start for our action packed week! Today we will be taught the skills behind kayaking, and the different techniques for various movements, with plenty of time for a dip in the cool, refreshing water.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

You will be out for the day on the lake so will need to bring a waterproof bag with a picnic and snacks for the day, water, towel and spare warm clothes and spare dry trainers.

For the kayak trip you will need to wear swimwear, sun hat or cap, sunglasses, and trainers that can get wet. A t-shirt to protect your shoulders is also advisable. If it is cool or windy, then a fleece is also worth wearing (make sure you have a spare double for anything you might wear in the kayak to change into if it gets wet).

Monday 2nd September

Today is a day at leisure, you may wish to explore the town of Gap, the largest town of the Hautes- Alpes. Gap is a beautiful city, with a unique Alpine, Provencal style. Take some time to meander the quaint streets, pausing for a coffee in a cosy café before visiting the park or the museum for a dose of history.

Alternatively, you may wish to partake in our optional excursion, paragliding! Head into the hills for the adrenaline fuelled adventure, where in pairs you will experience the sensation of fly through the air, as the breathtaking scenery whizzes past you.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

You will be paragliding two people at a time and the whole experience takes about an hour with the drive up to the launch to landing with about 10 -15 minutes in the air.
Whilst other people are paragliding, you can stay and watch or go for a short wander around the base where there is a small lake and easy walks up and down the river side.

Tuesday 3rd September

This afternoon we head back onto the water to learn the skills behind rafting! The Southern Alps is renowned for its white water and people travel from all corners of the globe to experience the water! Here we’ll work together as a team to navigate through the rapids and how to use the rushing water to our advantage.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

Please make sure you have eaten before being collected and bring water and snacks with you for the afternoon. You will be provided with wetsuits and buoyancy aids for the rafting so you just need to be wearing swimwear and trainers that can get wet. These need to be proper trainers rather than neoprene boat shoes to provide extra protection against rocks.

Please bring a small rucksack with a change of clothes including a dry pair of trainers and a towel.

Wednesday 4th September

Today is a day at leisure to explore the surrounding area of Gap! This morning you may wish to meander through the quaint streets of Gap to the local market, where you can stroll through the stalls and peruse the produce on offer.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

Thursday 5th September

Today we will partake in a fascinating and insightful hike through nature, taking time to observe the local wildlife in their natural habitat. The French Alps are an area of great natural beauty, with dramatic valleys and rolling landscapes. As we hike across these luscious lands, our guided expert will talk us through all the different species that reside here and hopefully get us closer to some of these elusive creatures! Popular animals to see include lynx cats, ibex wild goats and marmots – rodents famed for their piercing whistle. The evening is yours at leisure.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

You will be out for the day in the mountains so will need to bring a small rucksack with a picnic and snacks for the day, water, waterproofs, and warm layers.

You will need to dress for walking in the mountains with layers and a good pair of walking boots. Sun cream, sunglasses and sun hat or cap are also required! If you use walking poles then we highly recommend bringing them. We also have walking poles if you wish to borrow them, so please let us know this at the welcome meeting.

Friday 6th September

Today enjoy one last day out on the water as you try your hand at inflatable canoeing! These inflatable canoes are very similar to normal canoes, but they are inflated, giving more stability – which is handy for those who don’t fancy a splash in the water! Our guide will take us out on the river and teach us the skills behind these unique canoes, before venturing out across the turquoise waters for one final day of fun!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Gap.

Please make sure you have eaten before being collected and bring water and snacks with you for the afternoon. You will be provided with wetsuits and buoyancy aids for the inflatable canoeing so you just need to be wearing swimwear and trainers that can get wet. These need to be proper trainers rather than neoprene boat shoes to provide extra protection against rocks.

Please bring a small rucksack with a change of clothes including a dry pair of trainers and a towel.

Saturday 7th September

Today we must depart this area of great natural beauty and begin our journey home!

Breakfast included.

Single supplement – £270

Whilst all activities are suitable for beginners, and difficulty level throughout the week will be based on the groups ability at the time, a good level of fitness is required for this trip. Activities will range from 4-8 hours, and whilst there may be opportunities to opt out of activities, this may not always be possible.

Please see each day for specific requirements for each activity.

Optional excursions need to be purchased 12 weeks in advance.
