Welcome to Poland
Join us on this, 5-day, culture-rich trip to Kraków, Poland’s former capital. With its diverse mix of Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, this historic city is brimming with character, offering a harmonious blend of old and new and an intriguing story around every corner.
As Kraków was a base for the German military hierarchy during World War Two, the city was left relatively unscathed by the war. As such, the city’s abundance of iconic sites remain standing today. From Wawel Royal Castle, the old royal residence perched proudly atop Wawel Hill, to the Gothic towers of St Mary’s Basilica, Kraków is a treasure trove of historically significant buildings and sites.
We’ll guide you through the Old Town and the fascinating Kazimierz district, or Jewish quarter, where we’ll learn all about the history and traditions of the area. We’ll travel deep underground to the breathtaking Wieliczka Salt Mine with its centuries-old mining history and explore its stunning chambers, chapels and intricate salt carvings.
A foodie paradise, no trip to Kraków is complete without visiting a nearby vineyard to sample local wines, or learning how to make traditional Polish dumplings, known as pierogi… and getting to taste the fruits of your labour! We’ll complete this exciting short break with a celebratory meal together in the Jewish quarter accompanied by traditional klezmer music which is sure to lead to some serious toe-tapping. This really is a city break not to be missed!

Wednesday 4th June
Fly to Kraków in Poland and transfer to our accommodation.
Dinner included. Overnight in Kraków
Thursday 5th June
This morning we meet our local guide and start our walking tour of Kraków Old Town. Home to the largest market square in Europe and an eclectic mix of architecture, from Gothic to Baroque, our guide will take us on an intriguing journey through history. We’ll learn about St Mary’s Basilica and its famous altar, the historic Jagiellonian University and the beautiful Renaissance Cloth Hall, now home to a gallery of Polish paintings.
Having worked up an appetite on our walking tour, we’ll try our hand at making pierogi, Poland’s famed dumpling dish. Pierogi have appeared in Polish history dating back to the 13th century and are, by far, the most popular and versatile dish in Poland today. Whether sweet or savoury, sampling these doughy delights is an essential part of any visit to Poland.
Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Kraków.
Friday 6th June
After breakfast, we’ll head out to visit the renowned Wieliczka Salt Mine. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this historic underground feature at Wieliczka began production in the 13th century and was still producing table salt up until 2007, making it one of the world’s oldest salt mines. A tour through the mine will undercover a fairy tale world of chambers hewn out of rock salt, statues sculpted from salt, serene saline lakes, three chapels and an entire cathedral, all created through years of patient labour by the miners.
Once back above ground we’ll continue to a local vineyard and an opportunity to discover a well-kept Polish secret – its delicious wines (not the vodka which its mostly known for!) We’ll stroll through the vineyard before enjoying lunch and some wine tasting. Finally, we’ll return to our hotel in Kraków for an afternoon at leisure.
Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Kraków.
Saturday 7th June
This morning our guide will take us on a tour of the Kazimierz district, Kraków’s historic Jewish quarter. Its soul perished during the traumatic events of the Second World War, but many of its buildings survived, some still with Yiddish inscriptions. Telling stories of the local history, we will visit Szeroka Street, where “Schindler’s List” was filmed, four of the city’s synagogues including the Remah Synagogue along with its significant neighbouring cemetery, and Apteka Pod Orlem, or the Ghetto Eagle Pharmacy Museum. Following our tour, we will visit the Galicia Jewish Museum where we will have the chance to hear, first hand, from some of the Holocaust witnesses of Kraków – a moving and heartfelt experience as their stories demonstrate the tenacity of the human spirit. The sharing plays an important role in ensuring the past is not forgotten.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take this time to pick up those final souvenirs or visit some of the other city attractions, perhaps a visit to Wawel Royal Castle, or the markets for a bargain!
In the evening, we will return to the Kazimierz district to enjoy some authentic Jewish cuisine for our final celebratory dinner accompanied by a traditional klezmer music concert. Enjoy this lively ensemble, which is typically comprised of an accordion, clarinet and bass, as they produce the most infectious sounds. Their energetic melodies promise to deliver an unforgettable evening and the perfect end to our short break in this fantastic city.
Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Kraków.
Sunday 8th June
After a relaxed start to the day we’ll transfer to Kraków airport for our flight home.
Breakfast included.
