Welcome to Mexico

Discover Mexico just as you’ve imagined. With its creamy sands, ancient archaeological sites, and tropical blue cenotes, Mexico is a wonderful place to get away from the approaching winter. Our aim on this holiday is to relax and soak up the sun but also sample some Mexican culture and of course, lots of delicious Mexican food. We’ll base ourselves in Playa del Carmen, the perfect place for exploring Mayan ruins in Coba and Tulum as well as the giant pyramids of Chichen Itza. In between our exploring, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the Mayan Riviera and its beaches. Our hotel is a short stroll away from the sand and there are many other places, like the island of Cozumel, where you can get your daily dose of sun. Come with us and we’ll enjoy winter sun at its best!

Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.

Monday 4th November

Today we depart for sunny Mexico for a 9-day break in Playa del Carmen.

Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Tuesday 5th November

After a day of travel yesterday, today is  at leisure in Playa del Carmen. Stroll along La Quinta (5th Street) and do a bit of early holiday shopping, go paddleboarding at sunset on the calm waters of Playa del Carmen, or try out a Marquesita – a local dessert with fillings such as Nutella and Edam cheese, peanut butter, cream cheese, chocolate syrup, and more! Alternatively, just spend time soaking up the winter sun – that’s what we’re here for after all!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Wednesday 6th November

Today, it’s time to explore! We’ll start our day by travelling to the most important Mayan ruin in the Yucatan Peninsula: Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders Of The World. This site was very well planned out and is believed to have been a powerful economic city in 600AD. Nowadays though, visitors come to see the Temple of Kulkakan – the pyramid that dominates the site – and marvel at how these structures were built with such accuracy to the movement of planets and the sun. Later in the day when the sun is hot, we’ll stop at a refreshing cenote. Cenotes are underground swimming holes which are formed by limestone giving way to underground rivers and springs and you’ll find them all over Mexico! Many are suitable for diving but we’ll be taking a simple dip in the blue, blue waters before heading back to Playa del Carmen.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Thursday 7th November

Today is another day at leisure to enjoy the chilled out Mexican lifestyle. If you don’t fancy topping up your tan though, there’s plenty to do in Playa del Carmen. For those that are into art, the Frida Kahlo Museum is located on La Quinta. Here you’ll find a whole exhibit dedicated to the life of Mexico’s most famous portrait artist. If you want a more activity-based day, explore the caverns of Rio Secreto, a complex of 5 caves that connect underground rivers and springs. You can even experience swimming in a pitch-black cave if you want to!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Friday 8th November

Our last big tour of the trip is to visit the archaeological sites of Coba and Tulum. The site in Coba is located in the heart of the Mayan Jungle and has the highest pyramid of the whole area. Unlike the pyramids at Chichen Itza, you can climb the ancient pyramids that are nestled in the forest at Coba meaning you get a totally different perspective of these impressive ruins. At a pyramid called Ixmoja, there are 120 stone steps to climb and there’s a rope to help you conquer the height of 42 metres!

After Coba, we’ll journey to Tulum where there are more ruins but instead of being hidden in the depths of the jungle, these are perched on the very edge of the coast of the Mayan Riviera. They’re not the largest in Mexico but they location is to die for and well worth the visit.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Saturday 9th November

All your day is free to spend as you wish today. If the beaches are calling, why not catch a 45-minute ferry over to the island of Cozumel? This island off the coast of Playa del Carmen is less commercialised and is the perfect place to really indulge in a more tropical vibe and the epitome of Caribbean bliss. Another beach worth visiting is Xpu Ha, a secluded part of the Mayan Riviera that’s only short taxi ride from Playa del Carmen.

In the evening, we’ll enjoy a culinary experience that’s designed to delight your senses. This unique night will include 5 courses of delicious food that are combined with art, experiences and anecdotes narrated by the chef.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Sunday 10th November

Spend today at leisure or join in on an excursion to Park Xenses. This place is guaranteed to play with your senses with a variety of activities including a labyrinth of underground arteries, the Xitric Garden, bird flight, a salt river, a mud river, and The Eden where you’ll find a cave opening with waterfalls, flamingos, and fish.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Playa del Carmen.

Monday 11th November

After enjoying our breakfast at the hotel, we’ll check out to enjoy our last few hours in Playa del Carmen. Our flight isn’t until early evening, so take the day to enjoy the sun before we transfer to the airport.

Breakfast included. Overnight in flight.

Tuesday 12th November

We’ll land back home in the morning. We hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday in Mexico!
