Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.

Tuesday 14th July

Arrive into Alnwick today and explore its cobbled streets before congregating this evening for our first dinner together as a group!

Dinner included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Wednesday 15th July

Today we’ll visit the magnificent Alnwick Castle and Gardens, now known around the globe for its use in the Harry Potter movies! We’ll first enjoy a guided tour around the vast castle grounds, where we’ll hear facts and stories about its historic journey from medieval fortress to ducal residence, taking in its towers, defences and tales of famous former residents. Later we’ll walk over to the gardens where we’ll embark on the Poison Garden tour; a garden filled with flora that can be fatal! After this you’ll have some time to meander around the impressive gardens before we return to our hotel.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Thursday 16th July

Journey north to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, where we’ll time our approach carefully to ensure we cross the causeway before it disappears below the sea! The island itself is often isolated from the mainland and has therefore become a fantastically well-preserved relic. Our local guide will take us on a tour around the little town, where we’ll discover the old-fashioned buildings iconic to the island, hear the roaring of the ocean and take in the island’s fresh sea air. After our time here, we’ll travel through Northumberland’s rugged coastline to Bamburgh Castle, a striking fortification that stands atop a basalt outcrop and dominates the surrounding area.  Having been the location of a fort since before the Romans, the site has been contested in numerous wars over the centuries before the local industrialist Armstrong family bought and restored the castle in the 19th century. We’ll enjoy a tour here where we’ll learn about the castle’s history before departing to Alnwick for our final evening.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Friday 17th July

This morning before our departure you may wish to venture to one more of Northumberland’s quaint seaside towns – we suggest Alnmouth. Alternatively, why not indulge in a bit of retail therapy in the artisan boutiques and antique shops in the heart of Alnwick before departing Northumberland.

Breakfast included.

Single supplement – £135
