We first journey to Intramuros, the historic walled city in the centre of Manila, and the former hub of the Spanish colonial presence in the Philippines. We shall visit the Rizal Museum to learn of the nation’s hero Jose Rizal. We will also visit the Disteleria Limtuaco, the oldest functioning distillery in the Philippines, and if we are lucky get a taste of their traditional produce. Finally, we shall board a calesa, a horse drawn calash originally introduced by the Spanish in the 18th century for a relaxing and authentic way to get around the city that will transport you to a different time, as we continue our tour with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the San Agustin Church.

Sunday 21st October

Today we shall journey to Corregidor Island, which serenely sits at the entrance of Manila Bay. However, the islands past is not so tranquil as the tad-pole shaped island was once a thronging military fortress. Due to its strategic location the island was heavily fortified to defend the entrance to Manila from attacks by enemy warships. In World War Two the island became known as the site of the last stand of US troops in the Philippines, commonly referred to by the Americans as Fort Mills or simply ‘the rock’. Nowadays it is a peaceful island where there are no cars allowed to maintain this quiet. We will take in the islands historic sites as we journey around by Electric Tram, a relic of the American occupation and a serreal experience.

Please note the Corregidor Island tour is a public tour.

Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Manila.

Monday 22nd October

This morning we shall fly south from Manila to Dumaguete on the island of Negros.

You will have a lunch of traditional Filipino cuisine on your way to Lake Balinsasayaw. On your way to Lake Balinsasayaw, you can enjoy the scenic views of the islands of Negros and Cebu, separated by the clear blue waters of Tanon Strait.

Lake Balinsasayaw is one of two small but deep crater lakes rising 1,000 feet above sea level. We will get the chance to get out on the water as we board a local outrigger boat that will cruise us around the lake. With the help of our expert guide we will do some bird watching of the different tropical colourful bird life living around the lake. You will also be introduced to the different variety of tropical plants here and you may even get a chance to taste several of the edible plants growing around the lake’s shores.

At the other end of the lake we will go on a short hike to reach a stunning collection of waterfalls. There is time for swimming in the waterfalls, to cool off after an exhilarating day.

We will spend a couple of hours here before we make our journey to our hotel in Dumaguete.

Wednesday 24th October

The island of Siquijor is a deeply traditional place and is known for magic, sorcery and spiritual healing. We begin to make our way up to the mountain of Barangay of Cantabon, a place of significance for all the local people that is shrouded in intrigue and mystery. Your first stop will be at the house of a healer, one of the descendants of a well-known community healer. Here you may try fumigation, a ritual cleansing, that will protect anyone from exposure to negative energies or a wellness massage locally known as ‘’hilot’’.

We shall also experience the unique healing method of “bulo-bulo,” where a glass jar, clean water, straw and magic stone are used to heal anyone who visits the mananambal (traditional healer). The healer blows air into the water through a straw as he passes the glass around the patient’s body, as the water becomes murky, the glass will be rinsed, and the healer repeats the process until the water finally stays clear and the visitor is cleansed from bad spirits or any sickness.

After your morning healing experience, the outdoor adventure begins. We first proceed to Mt. Bandilaan, Siquijor’s highest peak. You will walk through lush forest and incredible nature to reach the highest point of the mountain where you can climb the watch tower for a panoramic a view over the whole Island of Siquijor.

Next, you will head to Lazi, another traditional town for your seafood lunch made of a combination of local cuisines.  You can also take the chance to relax by dipping your feet in a cool pond under a century old “Balete tree” to experience the ‘’fish spa.’’

The journey continues to the old church and convent of Lazi, the church, also known for its huge convent, was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines.

After a taste of Siquijor’s heritage, we shall cool down as our day concludes with a refreshing dip in Cambugahay Falls. This is a multi-tiered cascading waterfall with fresh and clean warm water running off, coming from natural springs.

We shall then return to the resort for some rest and recuperation.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Siquijor.

Thursday 25th October

Today you can choose to spend relaxing at the hotel or venture out to do some shopping and explore the friendly and welcoming communities of Siquijor.

Apo Island is a volcanic island covering 12 hectares in land area, 7 kilometres off the south-eastern tip of Negros Island The name “Apo” was derived from a Filipino word for “grandchild”.

The marine habitat around the island is a marine reserve, protected by the National Integrated Protected Area Act (NIPA). It is one of the world’s best-known community-organized marine sanctuaries, and as such it has been well documented by the global science community. At present, the island is home to over 650 documented species of fish and estimated to have over 400 species of corals. Most of the Philippines’ 450 species of coral can be found here, from tiny bubble corals to huge gorgonian sea fans and brain corals.
