Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.

Monday 4th August

We’ll meet at Monk Coniston, our characterful accommodation for the duration of the holiday. This Grade II-listed house has a wealth of woodland walks on its doorstep and overlooks Coniston Water, the fifth largest of the lakes at five miles long. The property has strong ties to children’s author and illustrator, Beatrix Potter, who campaigned with the National Trust to save it from development.

We’ll check in from 4pm onwards and get to know each other over a delicious cream tea served in the conservatory. There will then be time for an introductory stroll around the house and gardens.

Cream tea and dinner included. Overnight at Monk Coniston.

Tuesday 5th August

For a truly historic experience, we’ll board the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway and enjoy a relaxing journey from Haverthwaite to the lake. A boat will greet us at Lakeside, and we’ll navigate the waters to Windermere. After lunch, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Blackwell Arts & Crafts Museum and Windermere’s Jetty Museum before returning to Monk Coniston.

Breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Monk Coniston.

Wednesday 6th August

We’ll spend much of today exploring the Lake District’s most romantic scenery. Beginning in Rydal, we’ll take a gentle walk along the River Rothay and continue around the shore of Rydal Water. Next up is Grasmere, where we’ll visit Dove Cottage, the former home of 19th century poet laureate and pioneer of the Romanticism movement, William Wordsworth. There’ll be plenty of free time to explore the pretty village of which highlights include Wordsworth’s grave in St Oswald’s churchyard and the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.

We’ll end our day with a cruise over Coniston Water on the National Trust-owned Steam Yacht Gondola, a restored steam-powered yacht built by the Furness Railway Company in 1859.

Breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Monk Coniston.

Thursday 7th August

Known locally as La’al Ratty, meaning ‘little railway’, the miniature Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway huffs and puffs from the Cumbrian Coast to the Lake District. It is one of England’s oldest and longest narrow-gauge railways dating back to 1873. We’ll journey through stunning scenery and enjoy the sounds and smells of the steam engine as it carries us into the fells. We’ll then visit Muncaster Castle for a guided tour of this stately home with the chance to enjoy an exhilarating birds of prey flying display and a relaxing walk around some of the 70 acres of peaceful gardens.

Breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Monk Coniston.

Friday 8th August

After breakfast, we’ll depart Monk Coniston at leisure.

Breakfast included.
