Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.
Monday 13th April
We arrive at The Peveril of the Peak, our characterful country house hotel and base for the next four nights. After check-in from 4pm, we’ll enjoy a welcome cream tea – a perfect time to get to know one another. We’ll then have time to explore the house, its tranquil surroundings and prepare for our Peak District adventure!
Cream tea and dinner included. Overnight in The Peveril of the Peak.
Tuesday 14th April
Our first full day takes us to the magnificent Chatsworth House, ancestral home of the Devonshire family for nearly 500 years. This Grade I listed stately home features exquisite interiors, historic stables, and an extensive 105-acre garden set within a 1,822-acre park. It also houses one of Europe’s most important private art collections. We’ll enjoy a guided tactile tour of the house, followed by time to explore the gardens and, weather permitting, have lunch outdoors in this remarkable setting.
In the afternoon, we visit Poole’s Cavern, a fascinating two-million-year-old limestone cave and one of England’s most impressive show caves. On our guided tour, we’ll journey through its vast chambers, marvelling at towering stalactites and stalagmites before heading back to our hotel for dinner.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in The Peveril of the Peak.
Wednesday 15th April
Today we head to the historic village of Eyam, known for its courageous role during the Great Plague of 1665-1666. The villagers famously chose to isolate themselves to prevent the spread of the disease, which arrived via contaminated cloth. We’ll start at the Eyam Museum for an insightful guided tour, then explore the village and finish with lunch in the courtyard of historic Eyam Hall.
In the afternoon, we turn to the region’s industrial heritage with a visit to Masson Mills, a hydro-powered textile mill built by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1783. This guided tour will reveal how the River Derwent was harnessed to revolutionise cotton production – an early and iconic example of sustainable industrial power.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in The Peveril of the Peak.
Thursday 16th April
After breakfast, we continue discovering the Peak District with a visit to the elegant spa town of Buxton. On a guided tour, we’ll learn about its famed thermal waters, historic spa buildings, and stroll through the beautiful Pavilion Gardens. We’ll also sample some local specialities, including the delicious Buxton pudding! We’ll lunch at a local café or pub, then the afternoon is free to explore more of this charming town at your own pace.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in The Peveril of the Peak.
Friday 17th April
Following breakfast, we bid farewell to our group, departing at leisure after a memorable few days in the Peak District and the breathtaking scenery of Dovedale.
Breakfast included.
