Saturday 8th August

Upon arrival at Kuusamo airport, we’ll transfer to the picturesque region of Kylmäluoma and our base for the next seven days. After checking into our cosy wooden cabins, we’ll meet our wonderful local guide, who will brief us about the activities in the coming week, before enjoying some local cuisine and our first taste of Finnish hospitality!

Dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Sunday 9th August

The Kylmäluoma region has over 50 kilometres of marked, scenic hiking trails. Today, we’ll embark on a gentle hike, winding through peaceful pine forests and along sparkling lakeshores. Along the way, we’ll learn about the local wildlife including elk, reindeer, bears, and wolverines. We’ll then enjoy a traditional Finnish picnic lunch around an open fire, where we’ll cook some food and brew hot drinks in a large pot over the flames.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Monday 10th August

After breakfast, we’ll take to the water in our two-person Native American canoes. After a short introduction to basic canoeing, we’ll enjoy a peaceful paddle, navigating the local lakes and narrow rivers by our cabins. If the weather is warm, we might stop off at one of the many appealing sandy spots for a refreshing swim along the way.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Tuesday 11th August

Today is free for optional outdoor activities. You might choose to return to the hiking trails, or head to the local waters to enjoy more paddling, or take advantage of your own private sauna! Alternatively, perhaps try your hand at foraging for wild berries and mushrooms in the surrounding forests with expert guidance – a relaxing way to connect with nature’s bounty close to our own front doors.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Today we head south of Kylmäluoma for a visit to the local reindeer farm. Meet and feed these semi-wild animals and learn about their life in the Arctic north. Moving on from the farm, we’ll head to the Musical forest – a unique trail where art and sound blend with nature. The forest features a variety of large, handcrafted wooden instruments that can be played as you walk through. From deep resonant tones to cheerful jingles, the trail offers an interactive, cultural experience in a beautiful pine forest setting.

On the return journey, we’ll stop at the ‘Silent People’ installation – a striking outdoor artwork of nearly 1000 peat-headed figures standing silently in a field. Created by dancer and choreographer Reijo Kela in 1988 (and moved to this location in 1994) its meaning has purposefully been left open to interpretation, with the creator desiring each visitor to draw their own conclusions, ideally over a cup of tea or coffee in the nearby cafe which overlooks it.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Thursday 13th August

The last day is dedicated to relaxing and enjoying Finnish outdoor traditions. Try your hand at fishing in the nearby lake – a beginner-friendly way to embrace the peace and quiet of nature… and maybe even catch your dinner! In the evening, unwind by indulging in a private lakeside sauna followed by a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters. A perfect end to your Finnish adventure in this Nordic haven.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Kylmäluoma.

Friday 14th August

After breakfast, we’ll say goodbye to the beautiful wilderness of north-eastern Finland and transfer back to Kuusamo for our flight home – refreshed, rebalanced and filled with unforgettable memories.

Breakfast included.
