Here at Traveleyes HQ we take security extremely seriously, which is why we wanted to write this quick blog and bring to your attention the importance of a new update that Google Chrome has done.
If you don’t use Google Chrome, don’t worry, we have highlighted some other things that you can look out for.
The update on Chrome will visibly show you whether a website is safe and secure, and when you are using a website that you may be entering your personal details into, such as name, address, passwords and card details, you want to know for sure the site is taking the protection of your details seriously.
Google are trying to help users stay safe whilst online and if you are not in the online marketing world it is probably something that you are not aware of. So, we want you to look out for the following things when using websites.
Firstly if you use the new updated version of Google Chrome then at the top of the page, just before the web address bar (URL bar) it will tell you if the website is secure or not with three security statuses:
Green padlock and the word Secure – means safe and secure to use.
Grey ‘I’ in a grey circle and the words ‘Not secure’ – this means your connection to the site is not secure and you should not enter any sensitive information on this site
White exclamation mark in a red triangle and the words ‘Not Secure’ – this means your connection is not private and your details are at serious risk on this site.
If you click on any of these three symbols, it will give you a more detailed explanation of the site’s security status.
Secondly if you are not using an updated version of Chrome or use any other web browser, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc there are other things you can look out for. The main thing to be aware of is the URL (web address itself). We often type in www.abc.com and then look at the site without looking any closer at the web address. With one close look you can see how secure the website it!
With Traveleyes we type in traveleyes-international.com
When the site loads, the web address changes to https://traveleyes-international.com
You might be saying – what’s so different about that? Well the ‘s’ in ‘https’ is new and stands for secure, If the website you are on is not secure then it will not have the ‘s’ and will just read ‘http’ on its own, or it may not even show it at all.
Whilst your online we want you to stay safe and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the office.
The Traveleyes Team!
