Lanzarote Winter Sun

The Island of Eternal Spring

January 13 - January 20, 2027

Welcome to Lanzarote

Escape to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands for the perfect winter sun break, where the fresh Atlantic breeze, volcanic landscapes, whitewashed towns and a relaxed Canarian rhythm set the pace of daily life.

Ideally located by the beach in Puerto del Carmen, this 8-day holiday offers the chance to unwind while discovering the island’s most memorable places. We’ll explore the extraordinary Fire Mountains of Timanfaya, taste Malvasia wine grown in the black volcanic soils of La Geria and discover the creative legacy of renowned architect and visionary, César Manrique, in places where art and nature are seamlessly intertwined. There is also time to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Teguise Market and to feel the spray of the ocean on a catamaran journey around the peaceful island of La Graciosa.

With its absence of high-rise hotels on the skyline, Lanzarote has kept much of its original character. A land of contrasts, with dark lava fields, green palms, white villages, golden sunsets and blue skies, this trip offers a chance to slow down, explore and welcome the warmth of the winter sun.

Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.

Wednesday 13th January

Fly to Lanzarote, arriving in the early evening, and transfer to Hipotels La Geria, our 4-star beachfront hotel located in the peaceful Playa de los Pocillos region of Puerto del Carmen.

After checking in, there will be time to relax, freshen up and settle into your new surroundings before we come together for our first group dinner at the hotel.

Dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Thursday 14th January

Today we travel west to discover Lanzarote’s extraordinary volcanic landscapes, beginning with Timanfaya National Park and the Fire Mountains. This dramatic area was shaped by eruptions in the 18th century, leaving behind a vast landscape of lava fields, craters and volcanic slopes, often compared to the surface of the moon.

As we journey through the Fire Mountains, we’ll learn more about the island’s volcanic past and witness geothermal demonstrations that reveal the intense heat still present beneath the earth’s surface.

We then continue to La Geria, Lanzarote’s remarkable wine region, where vines grow in dark volcanic soil and are sheltered by low, curved stone walls. During our visit, we’ll enjoy a tasting of the island’s distinctive Malvasia wine before returning to our hotel.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Friday 15th January

Today is free to explore Puerto del Carmen at your own pace. You may wish to enjoy the feeling of the sea breeze and the sounds of the waves as you take a stroll along the promenade, with plenty of opportunities to pause for a coffee, or cocktail, to soak up the relaxed coastal atmosphere. Or, you might want to head to the high street to browse the local shops (and pick up a delicious ice cream from the local Heldería Artesanal kiosk along the way!).

Alternatively, if you’re feeling more active, you could hire a fun pedal cart and enjoy a ride along the long seafront side-by-side with your fellow travellers.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Saturday 16th January

Today we head north to discover another side of Lanzarote, where greener landscapes, traditional coastal villages and dramatic volcanic formations reveal the island’s many contrasts.

Our first stop is the remarkable lava cave, Jameos del Agua,  which was transformed by César Manrique into a unique space where nature, art and architecture sit in harmony together. As we explore, we’ll experience the cool atmosphere of the cave, admire its striking rock formations and discover the underground pool, home to tiny blind albino crabs found nowhere else in the world.

We then continue to the fishing village of Órzola, where there will be free time for lunch, before visiting an aloe vera finca to learn more about this important island plant. Later, we visit Mirador del Río, one of Manrique’s most spectacular viewpoints. From here, our sighted travellers can help bring the landscape to life, describing the sweeping views across the sea towards La Graciosa, while everyone can enjoy the fresh sea air and dramatic cliff-top setting. Our return journey takes us through Haría, known as the Valley of 1,000 Palms. Surrounded by hills and dotted with thousands of palm trees, this peaceful, fertile landscape feels worlds away from the volcanic scenery found elsewhere on the island.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Sunday 17th January

This morning offers the perfect activity for a leisurely Sunday as we visit Teguise, Lanzarote’s former capital, for its traditional Sunday market. The town’s cobbled streets, quaint squares and historic buildings create an atmospheric backdrop as colourful stalls fill the centre with crafts, gifts, local produce and souvenirs.

There will be time to wander through the market and soak up the lively atmosphere, with traditional music often filling the town square. It is a great opportunity to experience the sounds, scents and flavours of one of Lanzarote’s most picturesque towns before we return to the hotel.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Monday 18th January

Today we travel back north to Órzola, where we’ll take a ferry to the peaceful island of La Graciosa. After the short crossing, there’ll be time to explore Caleta de Sebo, the island’s main village, with its sandy streets, whitewashed houses and wonderfully relaxed pace of life.

Later, we’ll board a catamaran and sail along the coast, enjoying the gentle movement of the boat and feeling the refreshing sea breeze on our faces. We’ll anchor near Playa Francesa, where lunch will be served on board, with time to relax, swim or kayak in the crystal-clear waters before returning to Lanzarote.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Tuesday 19th January

Today is free to relax and enjoy your final full day in Puerto del Carmen. You may wish to spend time at the hotel, unwind by the pool, or head down to the beach to enjoy the warmth of the winter sun and the soothing sound of the Atlantic.

Whether you choose to unwind at the hotel or spend more time exploring the resort, this is an opportunity to enjoy Lanzarote at your own pace before we come together for our final evening meal at the hotel.

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at Hipotels La Geria.

Wednesday 20th January

After a leisurely breakfast, there will be some free time to enjoy a final morning at the hotel before we transfer to Lanzarote Airport for our flight home.

Breakfast included.
