Traveller Expectations with Traveleyes
Please read before travelling
Please take a few minutes to read our Traveller Expectations before your holiday. They explain how the Traveleyes experience works, what you can expect from us and what we ask from everyone travelling with us.
Traveller Expectations with Traveleyes
At Traveleyes, we value our community and invite every traveller to embrace the Traveleyes experience. To help ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone, these Traveller Expectations set out the principles we ask all travellers and team members to follow. They reflect our shared commitment to a positive travel experience built on respect, consideration for others, participation and responsibility.
Traveller Expectations
Traveleyes holidays are built around a guiding partnership between travellers. Blind, vision impaired and sighted travellers play an important role in bringing their own experience, perspective and contribution to the partnership. Everyone has a part to play in making the experience work well. We therefore ask all travellers to approach their holiday with courtesy, patience, cooperation and an understanding of how the Traveleyes model works. The expectations detailed below are designed to help everyone understand what they can expect from a Traveleyes holiday and the commitments we ask everyone travelling with us to make in order to create a positive experience for the whole group.
Our Promise To You
Exceptional Service
Our team is committed to providing friendly, professional and attentive service throughout your journey, from the time you book, until you return home.
Respect and Inclusivity
We welcome people from different backgrounds, cultures and circumstances and aim to create a positive holiday experience where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Safe and Welcoming Atmosphere
We work to create a safe and supportive environment for all travellers, whether blind, vision impaired, or sighted, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and able to participate fully.
Your Promise To Us
Traveleyes holidays work because everyone contributes to the experience. By travelling with us, we ask you to recognise the role you play in creating a positive, respectful and enjoyable holiday for yourself and the people around you.
The Traveleyes Guiding Partnership
A central part of the Traveleyes experience is the guiding partnership between blind/vision impaired travellers and sighted travellers. Sighted travellers are not simply travelling alongside the group. Their participation in the guiding partnership is an important part of how our holidays operate. This includes providing one-to-one guiding, describing surroundings and helping their blind or vision impaired partner navigate different environments and experiences. At the same time, sighted travellers are fellow travellers who are equally on holiday. The relationship is based on cooperation, courtesy and mutual respect rather than one traveller acting as another person’s carer or personal assistant. As part of the Traveleyes model, partners rotate on a daily basis which helps to create a shared experience across the group. Our Tour Managers are there to support you in the guiding partnership and to address any practical issues that arise during the holiday.
What We Ask of Sighted Travellers
If you are travelling as a sighted traveller, we ask you to:
- Read the Sighted Traveller Pack provided by Traveleyes before your holiday and familiarise yourself with the guiding approach and what to expect.
- Participate actively in the guiding partnership, recognising that this is an integral part of the Traveleyes holiday experience.
- Provide appropriate verbal description and guidance to your partner where this forms part of your role.
- Work cooperatively with your partner, with patience, courtesy and consideration.
- Communicate openly if you are unsure about how to guide or need help understanding what is expected.
- Be open to rotating partners as part of the Traveleyes experience.
- Follow reasonable instructions from Traveleyes staff, Tour Managers and local partners relating to the operation and safety of the holiday.
- Contribute positively to the wider group experience, recognising that your interactions can affect the group as a whole.
You are not expected to have specialist training or to know everything about guiding before you travel. Our team will explain how Traveleyes holidays work and our Tour Manager will be there to help during the trip if you are unsure about anything.
What We Ask of Blind and Vision Impaired Travellers
If you are a blind or vision impaired traveller, we ask you to:
- Treat your sighted partner with courtesy, patience and respect, recognising that they are fellow travellers sharing the holiday with you.
- Recognise the boundaries of the guiding partnership and avoid treating sighted partners as carers, personal assistants or employees.
- Communicate openly with your sighted partner and Tour Manager if something isn’t working or you need clarification.
Respectful Behaviour and Group Harmony
We expect all travellers to treat Traveleyes staff, Tour Managers, local guides and fellow travellers with courtesy and respect. Harassment, bullying, racism, discrimination, intimidation, abuse, inappropriate or offensive language, or other harmful behaviour will not be tolerated.
As travellers may share accommodation, transport, activities and close guiding partnerships, personal hygiene is an important part of being considerate towards fellow travellers.
We ask travellers to refrain from smoking in prohibited areas and to avoid excessive alcohol consumption that could compromise group safety or enjoyment.
Any behaviour that makes another traveller feel unsafe, including unwanted physical contact, intimidation, invasion of personal boundaries, or behaviour that causes another traveller to feel unsafe or uncomfortable will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately. Travellers should not invite non-Traveleyes individuals to join group activities without prior approval.
If you feel uncomfortable or witness behaviour that poses a concern, please report it confidentially to your Tour Manager. We may take action where behaviour is having a significant impact on the safety, wellbeing or enjoyment of other travellers. This may result in removal from the trip and/or refusal of future bookings.
Respect for Destinations and Local Communities
Traveleyes travellers are expected to show consideration for the people, environments and cultures we visit.
This includes following guidelines for sustainable tourism and reducing waste where possible, including minimising plastic use and disposing of waste responsibly; respecting wildlife and natural habitats by keeping a safe distance and avoiding interference with local flora and fauna.
We expect travellers to honour local customs and traditions, showing respect, appreciation and understanding for the people and communities we encounter; follow reasonable guidance from Traveleyes staff and local partners; and avoid disruptive behaviour, including excessive noise or behaviour that could negatively affect local communities or other travellers.
By following these principles, we can help ensure an enriching, meaningful and memorable travel experience for everyone.
Care for Property
We ask all travellers to respect both personal and public property. Any accidental damage should be reported promptly to help us resolve the situation quickly and minimise disruption for others.
Respectful Social Media and WhatsApp Engagement
We may invite you to join WhatsApp groups and engage with our social media channels online.
WhatsApp groups are initially created by your Tour Manager to support communication, logistics, information sharing and photo sharing during your holiday, but often continue afterwards as a way for travellers to stay connected and share their experiences. Travellers are not obliged to join the WhatsApp group. We ask that all groups are used respectfully and positively and are not used for inappropriate, offensive or disruptive discussions. Once the holiday has ended, the group becomes traveller-led and is no longer controlled or moderated by Traveleyes or its Tour Managers.
Our online communities are spaces for open, friendly and respectful interaction. Please communicate appropriately, protect others’ privacy, and avoid negative commentary, hate speech, bullying, or divisive discussion.
If you have a question, concern or issue relating to your holiday, we ask you to contact Traveleyes directly.
When Expectations Aren’t Met
Where a traveller’s conduct, behaviour or participation is incompatible with the Traveleyes holiday model, or has a significant impact on the safety, wellbeing or enjoyment of other travellers, Traveleyes will take appropriate action. Decisions will take into account the circumstances and information available to us, including feedback from travellers, Tour Managers and other members of the Traveleyes team.
